We Can Forgive! May 14 2012

"Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." - Colossians 3:13

Is there someone you’ve been unwilling to forgive? Who is it that comes to mind? Now I assure you in some situations, you’re not going to be able to forgive people in your own strength. The hurt is too deep. We need to ask God to help us do what we cannot do. Ask for His supernatural power to begin to forgive that person!

Unwillingness to forgive is unwillingness to give control to God. Leave the getting even up to Him. How do you know when forgiveness is complete? For me, it’s when I’m able to see that person without having a knot in the pit of my stomach. There’s no sense of bitterness or resentment – just acceptance. Does that mean you merely trust them? Oh no – that’s for fools. But you choose to love them. It’s a great miracle that God brings about when we ask His help on forgiving others. And what freedom – to finally let go.

If you’re really struggling in this area, remember, Jesus is our ultimate example. Nobody got the shaft like Jesus. He had no sin. We murdered Him with our sins on the cross. And while we were murdering Him, He said, “Father, forgive them.” If Jesus can forgive us for that, then through His power we can forgive others who have wronged us.

When I was growing up nobody in our house was allowed to use "swear" words or just crude words and one other word: fool. I see people, including former President Carter referred to as fools and I find it very disturbing and that may be just a personal thing of my still trying to abide by the rules my Christian Mama set down many years ago but I find the word is used too many times these days and I really find it such a serious word that it's use is judgemental and while people may act foolish and the error of their ways need, sometimes to be pointed out...there is just something about calling someone a fool that I find distasteful.

Wayne,I definitely agree with you. I don't think it was used purposefully but my wife always corrects me if I use it.

Concerning forgiveness: It took me many years -- most of my adult life -- to come to terms with the hurt and betrayal I received as a child, caused by a trusted parent.

The hurt was very deep; I was only able to forgive with God's help. Now, it is very much true: "There's no sense of bitterness or resentment -- just acceptance." I would not have been able to achieve that end without the help of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I am truly blessed.

The word "fool" appears over 150 time in any version of the Bible that I checked. It's a perfectly good description of cetain behavior :-)

Old saying: "No one ever forgets where they buried the hatchet".

Forgiveness is impossible without God's constant presence in my life.

What the Bible says is true, able to forgive is a virtue. But this does not necessarily mean that it is the grace of God that one is able to forgive.

Anyway there are many promises in that Bible that does not come to pass to day.

Another great message from RFTH,I recently received a text message on my phone,it was from an unrecognized number with no name attached,I still do not know who it was from. The message was 2 words,I'm Sorry, I thought for a minute, who owes me an apology? Wow what a revelation that was!!!Well after a few minutes of contemplation I responded to the un-known person and said You do not owe me an apology,I can not think of one person on this planet who owes me an apology, and if you feel you do,know this,I forgave you a long time ago!!!Now that is a feeling as good as any I can remember just knowing that I don't hold any grudges or ill feelings towards anyone near or far is truly a gift from God,and the freedom that comes from that is priceless yet costs nothing!!!
