God's Spirit Convicts Us Feb 27 2012

"And when (the Holy Spirit) comes, He will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment." - John 16:8

Let's face it, no matter how hard we try, all of us will rationalize all sorts of evil plans. As my dad has said many times, "For many people today, there is no such thing as sin, everything is explainable." The Holy Spirit cuts right through this nonsense.

The Holy Spirit is God's gift to convict us of sin. When we are not in close relationship with God, the Holy Spirit uses the sharing or preaching of the Word of God to convict us of our need for the forgiveness and salvation of God in Christ. If we are a follower of Christ, the Holy Spirit dwells within us to convict us when we do wrong with a need to get things right with God.

Did you know that the most miserable person in the world is not the non-Christian! The most miserable person in the world is the Christian who is rebelling against God, because that Christian is going through a war inside. When the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, He gives us an inner desire to confess our sin to God and to seek forgiveness from those we have wronged. In the process, we get right with God once again.

The Holy Spirit is there to convict us - because God loves us and wants the best for our lives. His conviction is all about God's love.

Wow,Once again your devotion today hits home! I was up at midnight today thinking of an instance that happened just the other day at work. And trying to figure out how to apologize to this co-worker for what I had done.I was going through a rather strong conviction of the Holy Spirit just a few minutes before this devotion came to my in box...I was scheduled for a rather busy day and would have had enough time to finish all my appointments by the close of business, had nothing gone wrong to slow me down,I even had a helper that day,one of the new guys at work who wanted to learn about my position, I had told him to hang out and watch and learn.Well we were working on a project and something went wrong that was going to slow us down for a couple of hours and put us way behind for our next and final job.So I start praying out loud for God to intervene on our behalf and to slow time down or allow us to move faster so we could get caught up.I even went a little too far and asked God to make something happen like a car accident WITHOUT INJURIES to slow our next appointment from getting there on time,Yeah Crazy I know,I even said if it is your will Lord allow this person to total their car and walk away from the accident and any car payments to help this customer out,who knows they are probably upside down on their car,and insurance could pay off the car and give them a fresh start...Yep I was in a panic and really just wanted more time to finish the car I was working on before this next person showed up.Well a few minutes later the customer called to say he would not be able to make his appointment that day and would call to reschedule later, for all I know he had just wrecked his car and walked away. Well again I went a little too far and told my helper that the phone call I had just received was to inform me that our customer had just totaled his car and wasn't going to be in. Needless to say he was freaking out on how GOD had worked that out and I was kind of overwhelmed at the turn of events my self and just knew that God had intervened for us.The only problem was that I had made up the part about totaling his car and really should have not added that because whatever had happened to that customer to keep him from getting to me was in my heart an act of God and I was and am thankful for that.My conviction is tearing me up inside because I know I need to apologize to my coworker for what I did, probably left a permanent scar on his heart towards ever believing any thing I ever say about God again.I really want to just set things right and hopefully gain some trust back from my coworker . This devotion has given me the insight to get right with God and my friend at work. Thanks again!!!

Matthew Henry Wrote:

"We should explain our motives, and show the nature of our proceedings..."
-------------------------

While men are very zealous for their own regulations, they should take care that they do not withstand God...

And those who love the Lord will glorify Him, when made sure that He has given repentance to life to any fellow-sinners.

Repentance is God's gift...

Grace takes away the heart of Stone, and gives us a heart of Flesh.

The sacrifice of God is a Broken Spirit..."

In response to JCO's question as to why we don't all just go to heaven right away, if it's so great, I offer a dear friends entry to my church's Lenten Devotional for today:

"The Meaning of Sacrifice"

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship.

Romans 12:1

"What does it mean to be a "living sacrifice?" Jesus is our model and our inspiration. He gave up his godhood to become one of us, the frail, vulnerable bag of flesh called human. Why? We are assured over and over that His love is the reason. His love, so amazing, so awesome, so unfathomable, is the reason for this sacrifice! It is beyond comprehension, yet we are asked to use our limited human brains and hearts to try. We aren't expected to have all the answers, but we are challenged by God to "know him" and to know his love.

As we grow in knowledge of God, we begin to have an inkling of what it means to become "living sacrifices." We begin to realize that in Jesus we have an example of what it means, and we have the help to become as him. As we walk in this world, in this day and time, we are called to serve others. This is non-negotiable for a Christian, in my opinion! How we serve is not as important as why we serve. Do we serve to save a place in heaven or to look good in the eyes of our neighbors, or do we serve because we know the God who saved us?

My prayer for this Lenten season is that I can be more like the Jesus who knelt before his followers and washed their dirty feet. The Jesus who did not consider himself better than any other human, nor inconvenienced by their problems."

In other words JCO, we don't rush off to heaven, because our Lord put us here for a purpose; his purpose. It might seem small to the world, but it's what he commands of us.

Grant, I also think the devotional speaks to JCO and his comment as to how Christians deep down know that Christianity is all myths and fables. To the contrary, Christians give their lives in service because they do know their Lord is real! Some actually lose their lives for their deep convictions. Going to church, bible study and gathering with other believers is an expression of reverence and love for the Lord who gave His life for us.

Hi all,I went to my co-worker yesterday and offered an apology for what I had said, thinking I was doing the right thing in hopes of clearing my conscience for embellishing what I had thought was an amazing occurrence.I was floored when he said I didn't owe him an apology because he didn't believe in God and was sure that he was his own god,,,what,,,well about an hour later we were still in a deep discussion about that...Funny how things work out.None the less I hope he comes to the truth the way and the life...

You are being led by the Holy Ghost...Wade into him.

But remember this Blair...We cannot possibly Expect Regenerate Reaction from the Unregenerate.

Be Gentle and Kind like you already are...

The Holy spirit does not convict Christians of sin. There is not one place in the Bible that says he does.John 16:7-8 John 15:19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. (NKJV)John 16:8-9 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; (NKJV)This verse has been miss quoyed so many times it makes me sick. Why would Jesus die for my sins then convict me of sin.The devil is the accuser of the brethern. If you will notice he convicts those who do not Believe. The Holy Spirit always points to Jesus. There are many Bible verses that disprove the belief of conviction by spirit Of god.
