God's Spirit Gives Us Resistance to Temptation Feb 26 2012

"And when (the Holy Spirit) comes, He will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment." - John 16:8

No matter how often we try, during the times of temptation, it can be difficult to show our love for God. For in temptation, we realize love for God is contrary to all of our emotions. When we give into temptation the result is guilt. If we keep repeating sin over and over we develop a heart of stone. And that is not a pretty sight. But, there is good news for the Christian in the face of temptation. The Holy Spirit convicts us to push back, to say no, and to do what is pleasing to God. Sometimes He brings to mind a verse on the example of Jesus. He is the source of what is truly supernatural: resistance to temptation.

So often, Christians try to live the good life on their own, in their own strength. This is doomed to failure. When we face temptation, we are up against spiritual powers of darkness and evil that are stronger and smarter than any of us. If you are a Christian, don't be an arrogant fool and try to make it on your own. Claim the power of the Holy Spirit and find victory over temptation.

Don't be an arrogant fool? Really? Well, the Bible tells us to not call each other fools, and since you failed this, then tell us how to claim the Holy Spirit? I know..do you??

Paula it's unfortunate that you mistook what was said. He wasn't calling anyone a fool...he was merely saying don't be one.

And he's right because it would be a foolish and arrogant thing to do to try to "live the good life on your own" when we don't have the strength without God. It's foolish because it's an attempt to do something that's humanly impossible. It's also arrogant because it takes pride to try something like that as well instead of trusting God.

If you're focused on a mere phrase of words that were intended only to make a valid point instead of the actual message in this devotion, then that's a real shame :-/

Just tell the Truth. Even if it to the People who have hurt you the most.

(If they call--don't call them)

Heck, they have what you gave them--they know the Truth. Some are Guilt-Ridden by the the Sacrifices you have made.

Some of us have been Called to remain Single but that falls under the Jurisdiction of Sovereignty...

That is a Far Cry from what Bryant is saying this Morning.
--------------------------

The Holy Ghost will give you Power...even in the Darkest Moments when all others throw in the Towel and whisper Dark Imaginations all Around.

Gonna put any Money in your Checking Account? Nope.
----------------------------
We have to make a Stand in Humility...Tough Calling.

But when someone you Love gives you the Opportunity to tell they Hurt You?

Let them Know--Give them a Chance to Make Things Right...Your Temptation to get back at them Evaporizes.

Their Temptation to keep Proving you Wrong and Condemn over and over?
--------------------------
Sometimes we sell other People Short--You never know what God is Doing on the Other Side of the Trade.

Remember--"Not willing that any should Perish but All should come to Repentance..."

yes, I've listened to many of his sermons. it's pretty much boilerplate bible-babble with some shaming thrown in for good measure. nothing different than other pastor. it's the same stuff in a different sweater-vest.

I am laughing so hard I can't see straight...Oh for Goodness Sakes!!!

Nobody loves a Good Tease more than a Certain Pastor--You should have heard the Sermon where he taught us how to Get Rid of Gnats.(SC Gnats--Down here we just Kill Them with Round-Up or Cutters)

Then there was this Other One in that Late Nineties where he talked about "The East-Cobb Wine-Laden Women vs. us Sperm-Donors?"

Erik--He Preached that Sermon--You talk about Bark off the Shins? I will never forget that one. Cause at that Point? I really needed to hear it!!!
---------------------
But he is a Great Pastor Erik and really Loves God and His Family...I have learned so much from Bryant..He is a Man's Man and loves His Little Lambs.

Of course if he saw me right now he would Beat the Daylights out of Me...
----------------------
But life is as life does and we are all still Learning.

Some of us Old Sinners really Love and Respect Bryant and Anne Erik...I admire Him.

Can you imagine all the Prayer and Study that goes into those Sermons?

Five-Stars/G

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

John gets it right up front. It's not (1)because you are born into a Christian family, (2)nor by physical strength,
(3) nor by human willpower. No, it's only by the work of God the Holy Spirit.

And thank God for the Holy Ghost Grant--Without Him?

I won't make it...
-------------------
On a differerent Topic we were talking the Other Day and I was trying to Think.(which you know is difficult for me to do)

The weakness of Human Spirit..how can we Possibly Attain God? Through this Weakness? All the Hurts and Sins and Discouragements?

Do we want Him? Well of Course...Of Course we want to see Him. To be with Him.

Not to the Exclusion of the Fellowship with Others...No. Not that at All. No: We want the Fellowship of everyperson in Our Path.

The Deal with me is this: Jesus has left the Building but He sent the Holy Ghost. He told us very plainly we would do Greater Things.

Says: "He shall take care of mine..."
---------------------
So when things get Really Bad? The only Thing I can Figure is Faith. That is it for me.

I didn't die on a Cross...I didn't Write or Edit the Scriptures...I am A Sinner.
-------------------------
You know...Like Bryant and You just said:

When you are Up Against it All--We cannot possibly Love God...Somehow some people get these "Verses" from the Lord and whatever they are?

I think they are from the Lord. Problem is? It is up to us to Believe or not Believe.

Lord Help me--I want that Heart of Flesh/G

That Paula up there, is not me the "old" Paula...impostor, troll, genuinely another Paula?

Anyway, I sometimes read the devotion comments and truly feel sorry for Erik and JCO (welcome back), it has to be so frustrating for them to try so hard and simply make no headway. Poor things...
